The history of what is now known as the Williamson County Emergency Service District No. 4 has it roots, like most fire service organizations, in the volunteer fire service. The community of Liberty Hill Texas and surrounding areas were protected by committed volunteers of the Liberty Hill Volunteer Fire Department, who left their jobs, homes and families to answer the alarm when someone was in need. This commitment to service should not be lost as we move into the future. Due to the hard work of those volunteers, in 2001 the Emergency Service District was established in order to create a funding source for the increasing need for services. The district covers approximately 128 square miles of diverse territory that includes the City of Liberty Hill, US Hwy 183, State Hwy 29, rural agricultural property and a large amount of residential properties in the urban interface. In 2003, the first full time firefighters were hired. Each shift ran with a one man crew supported by volunteers. As the face of volunteerism has changed in central Texas and the need for services has increased, over time the number of paid personnel have increased to a total of 39 operational staff, 4 admin staff and 1 fire marshal.
